| Subject: AILA: Webpages updated to version 1.0 Date: 1/29/98 11:11 AM The AI & Link Analysis webpages have been updated to version 1.0. http://eksl-www.cs.umass.edu/aila/ Changes include bug fixes, additions to the "Resources" page (now renamed "Software and Data"), a list of announcements (containing this announcement), and an new section ("Webpages") in the "References" page. The Webpages section lists the three extremely useful sites below: International Network for Social Network Analysis INSNA is the professional association for researchers interested in social network analysis. Social network analysis generally deals with substantially smaller networks than those that form the focus of the symposium. However, many of the goals are the same. Visualizing Social Networks Linton Freeman of the UCI School of Social Sciences reviews the state of the art in programming tools for constructing visual images of social networks. Additional details are available from Freeman's web page on social network imaging. Seeing Groups in Graph Layouts Cathleen McGrath, Jim Blythe, and David Krackhardt of Carnegie-Mellon University show how graph layout affects users perceptions and how they assign nodes in a network to particular groups. While this work is based on small networks, it shows how different visualizations of a network affect users' perceptions. The site includes a Java version of the task reported in the paper. --------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribers to the announcement list for the 1998 AAAI Spring Symposium on AI and Link Analysis receive periodic updates from symposium organizers.
