This talk will cover three broad topics. First, I'll give you a sense of what data mining techniques can do now and where some of our current research will lead. Second, I'll talk about some basic concepts that can help you understand how data mining can be applied to counter-terrorism. Third, I'll address some opportunities and problems posed by data mining techniques. I'll also discuss some myths that have arisen recently, particularly in stories on data mining and counter-terrorism in national and international media outlets.
